Jennifer Gumbel graduated with honors from Drake University Law School in 2007, where she also earned a public service certificate and was honored with the Timothy N. Carlucci Award for Civility and Professionalism. While at Drake, Jennifer served on the editorial staff and as a note editor for the Drake Journal of Agricultural Law, where her student note, Got Milch?: The Effect of Foreign Citizenship on Agricultural Estate Planning in the Wake of European Dairy Immigration was published in Spring 2007, which combined her interest in estate planning for both farmers and for non-citizens. Jennifer also served as president of the Drake International Law Society and was a member of the negotiations team and meditation team. In addition, Jennifer interned with the Honorable Celeste F. Bremer, Federal Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. While at Drake, Jennifer was licensed as a student attorney and worked at Iowa Legal Aid, serving clients with government benefits, land-lord tenant disputes, and family law issues.
Upon graduation, Jennifer became licensed in Minnesota and Florida as well as the Federal Court - District of Minnesota. After sitting for the bar, Jennifer served as a judicial law clerk for Judge Donald E. Rysavy and Judge Fred W. Wellmann with the Third District Court in Mower County. As a clerk, Jennifer gained experience in various areas of the law, including probate, real estate and property law, contracts, criminal law and family law. While Jennifer has experience in many areas of the law, she is particularly interested in assisting business owners, farmers and families in the areas of real estate law, business law, and estate planning. Jennifer is originally from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, but has made Minnesota her home. In 2000, she graduated with a degree in General Bible from the Association Free Lutheran Bible School in Plymouth, Minnesota and graduated with degrees in Political Science and German from the University of Minnesota in 2004. Jennifer speaks German fluently, which is in no small part attributable to her German born husband and his family. She is also active with her church and plays clarinet with the Austin Community Band and Austin Symphony Orchestra. Professionally, Jennifer is a member of the American Bar Association, Florida Bar Association, Minnesota Bar Association and sits on the Minnesota State Bar Association Membership Committee and the 10th District Ethics Committee.
